Message (-18): License server does not support this product

Question

When trying to use a network license, I receive the message:

Error checking out PRODUCT license.
License server does not support this product (-18)

How can I resolve this?

Solution

A '-18' warning message normally indicates that the license being used is for the wrong product or only valid for a previous version (e.g. for versions up to 2.0 when you are using version 3.0). The most likely cause of this is a second license on your system that is taking priority.

Try the following:

  • Search the PC for instances of *.lic
  • Isolate licenses with names containing the word “activated” and / or the name of the product (e.g. RING or GEO).
  • Delete all licenses except the one which you wish to use. Note that the files are plain text and can be read in Notepad.
If none of these actions solve the problem, please contact our support team on support@limitstate.com  or +44 (0) 114 224 2240It would also be useful for us to see the diagnostics file for the server machine:
  1. Go to the "Reprise License Server Administration" web page on the server (http://localhost:5054)
  2. Click 'Diagnostics' on the left-hand-side
  3. Save 'rlmdiag.txt' then email it to support@limitstate.com
